Understanding the different course formats (new vs. legacy)
Reforge is committed to providing a valuable learning experience to our members through insights from leading product, growth, and marketing experts to solve work-related challenges effectively.
In pursuit of this commitment, we’ve been introducing a new course format that’s more succinct and actionable.
What’s the new format like?
The new course format is organized by modules, each featuring step-by-step lessons for comprehensive learning. It also includes real-world examples in addition to templates, illustrating how other practitioners approach their work, giving you a head start in applying these lessons to your own tasks.
At the moment, the most courses in the new course format don't include videos.

Why are you making these changes?
Over the years, we've gathered valuable feedback from our members and analyzed engagement trends. This process has highlighted two key problems our members often face:
- Completing the course and gaining full insights from it
- Applying the knowledge to their work
To address these challenges, we have redesigned our courses format to be more succinct and actionable. The new format allows you to gain key insights more efficiently and enables you to apply learnings to your work more quickly.
When will the changes take place?
You may have noticed that our most recent courses are already available in this new format. However, our flagship courses are still being offered in the original format.
Based on customer feedback we received about the new course format, we will be providing access to the legacy format indefinitely. We will continue to improve the new course format based on your feedback and reevaluate at a later time. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
How can I access the legacy course format?
To ensure a seamless transition and minimize any disruption to your learning journey, the original long-form course will remain accessible indefinitely. A banner at the top of the course details page will provide easy access to it. After you start the course, navigate to the top of the Course Home page to switch over to the legacy experience.
Are you changing what’s included in the membership?
Your membership benefits remain intact, providing:
- Access to 35+ on-demand courses to level up on a variety of topics at your own pace
- Enrollment in live courses whenever they're offered
- Hundreds of step-by-step guides to quickly learn and apply concepts to your work
- Full access to Reforge's conversational AI for personalized advice
- Slack community to connect with peers and find more events like these.
We are excited to also share with you a look into some recent and upcoming Membership product releases. Some of them include:
- Personalized coaching while you learn through Reforge AI
- Personalized course recommendations through Reforge AI
- Course listening mode
- Easily draft PRD’s, Strategy Docs, etc with Reforge Extension powered by AI.
- And more…
How is it possible to maintain the same course content when reducing the lessons from 19 to 6 hours ?
The original format included extensive, non-actionable parts of the lessons such as context setting, extensively outlining the overarching problem, and reminding what you learned in the previous lessons. This made the content dense and repetitive.
To help you apply what you've learned to your work, we've made the content more succinct by focusing primarily on the actionable parts to improve time-to-value.
As an example:
- In the Growth Series, this 12-minute guide, Improve User Engagement Guide, has everything you need and walks you through each step. This is in contrast to the 33-minute lesson in the Engagement Section of the GS Program.
- In Product Management Foundations, compare the Conduct User Interviews to Refine User Value Guide, which takes 24 minutes, with the Refine User Value section of the Product Management Foundations program, which takes 45 minutes to reach the same insights.
Are you planning to add videos to the new course format?
Our new course format does not include videos currently, but we’re looking at ways to support different learning styles since we know some of our users really love to listen to content rather than read. We’ll share more when we have updates.
