Choosing your first Reforge Learning Course
π In this article: a simple way to pick your first course, based on your role, experience level, and what you want to accomplish.
The short version
Start with the course that matches the problem you're trying to solve right now. Reforge courses are designed to be applied to real work, so the best first course is usually the one that connects to a project, goal, or challenge you're already facing.
No course is a prerequisite for any other, so you can start anywhere. If you're new to a discipline, a Foundations course is a good place to begin.
Step 1: Start with your role
| If you work in⦠| Good places to start |

Step 2: Match your experience level
Reforge courses are designed around recommended experience levels. Pick the one that fits where you are today, not where you want to be.
Product
- Under 3 years: Product Foundations for the AI Era
- 3+ years: Mastering Product Management
- Under 5 years, non-technical: Technical Foundations
- 6+ years: Product Strategy
- 8+ years, with direct reports: Product Leadership
Growth
- New to growth: Growth Foundations
- 3+ years: Mastering Retention & Engagement
- 6+ years: Growth Strategy
- Leading or aspiring to lead a growth team: Growth Leadership
Marketing, Engineering, AI, and Builder courses are organized a little differently. See the category guides below, and Understanding Course Tiers for a full explanation of Foundations, Mastering, Strategy, and Leadership.
Step 3: Match your goal
If you already know what you want to accomplish, start there.
"I'm new to product management or moving into it."
Start with Product Foundations for the AI Era, which takes a feature from discovery to delivery.
"I'm a PM with a few years of experience and want to level up."
Try Mastering Product Management for strategy, roadmaps, and execution.
"I'm a non-technical PM and want to work better with engineering."
"I'm stepping into leading a team."
Look at Product Leadership, Growth Leadership, Marketing Leadership, or Engineering Leadership, depending on your function.
"I want to understand how products grow."
Start with Growth Foundations, then go deeper with Mastering Retention & Engagement or Mastering Experimentation.
"I work in B2B and want to build a product-led growth motion."
Try Mastering Product-Led Growth.
"I work in marketing and want to broaden my scope."
Try Mastering Growth Marketing for channels, Mastering Product Marketing for launches and go-to-market, or Marketing Strategy if you're more experienced.
"I want to get up to speed on AI."
Start with AI Foundations to understand how AI works. To use AI in your daily work, try AI Productivity, or AI Prototyping to build working prototypes with no technical background needed.
"I lead a team and want to bring AI into how we work."
Look at AI Strategy, AI Product Leadership, or AI Transformation.
"I want to build influence or get better with data."
Try Mastering Storytelling for alignment and buy-in, or Mastering Product Analytics to make better data-driven decisions.
Tips for choosing well
- Pick one course, not five. Finish one before you start another, and you'll get more out of it.
- Choose based on a current project. You'll retain more when you can apply what you're learning right away.
- Check "Best for" and "Not for." Each course's audience details are in the category guides below.
- Use Guides for quick wins. If you need to complete a specific task, a Guide may be a faster starting point than a full course.
- Remember you can explore. Your membership gives you access to the full course catalog, so you can come back for others as your needs change.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to take courses in a specific order?
No. No course is a prerequisite for any other. Each category guide includes suggested paths if you'd like a recommended sequence.
Can I take courses outside my role?
Yes. Many members take courses in adjacent areas, such as a Growth PM taking Marketing Strategy, to work better with cross-functional partners.
I'm an experienced professional. Should I skip Foundations?
Often, yes. If you've been in your discipline for several years, a Mastering, Strategy, or Leadership course is usually a better fit. If you're moving into a new discipline, Foundations may still be worth it.
What if I pick the wrong course?
You can switch. An active membership gives you access to all courses, so you can move on to another if the first one isn't the right match.
